Around my part of South Dakota I've seen most in the $20 range. Never had it done before but next one I will. Don't have a garage so I work in the gravel. When I do I will be watching the work and will let it idle in parking lot to look for leaks. I figure pick the one that uses oil I like and make sure I get a Motorcraft of Wix filter.
i never go back to those quick lube places. i went there once for a tranny flush and stripped the threads on the lines and in the radiator that it had to be towed out and new radiator and one new tranny line. the stupid guy had the nerve to get pissy at my because the truck was taking up one of his stalls. i almost punched the guy right there! they paid for the repairs finally after claiming that the shop that replaced the radiator did this which wasn't true. they also gave me a apology and a cupon for a free oil change.... i never used it. the tranny in that suburban when out a month after that. never could prove they were at fault.
back on the subject of changing oil... i alway try to space out the changes so that i can make it through the toughest part of winther on one change so i don't work in the cold. but i like to change my oil so often (i like clean oil in my truck, no black stuff for me) that sometimes thats not possible. so i take it to my trusty mechanic and he will do it for 24.99 not bad for have a guy who knows what he is doing.
I change my own oil. I live on a limited budget and little things like oil changes add up. I like putting that money in the fuel tank and burning it up.
On the Pickups with plenty of ground clearance its an easy job. If I paid someone I'd expect it would be around $25.
Having a service do it this one time might not be a bad idea. Have your coolant checked as well - might save some grief seeing as how its 0(F) with the windchills the last few days.
the weathers been pretty crazy here in the northeast...i was planning on doing it this weekend but it went from 60 to 30 pretty quick...and the wind makes it worse...just checked the weather though and its supposed to get above 40 for the weekend...i can definately deal with that...plus all your stories are scaring me...
I used to change my own oil, back when I lived at home. But now I dont have a nice driveway to do it in, plus I gotta have that oil drain pan, and then drop the oil off somewhere that accepts it. I just go down to super-lube, I think they are good I mean if you change oil all day and nothing else, you gotta be pretty good at it. And if they do screw something up, just keep the receipt as proof they were last to work on it, and it should be fine right?
well around here if you have it done by a shop its usually 20 bucks if u do it your slef its still not much less than 20, i guess it pays off to know the shop owner.
I end up paying for it with my wife's car, $10 a change. This is only at the dealer we bought the car, for as long as we own the car. I figure I am not going to touch it for that price.
I change my own on my truck. $1.88/quart and $3-4 per filter. I got it down to a 10 minute deal to change and grease. Takes longer to clear a spot in the garage sometimes.
