After warranty expired I will do my own oil changes now. How do you remove the plastic yellow plug? I know you twist it left but is there a trick to it? The little ears lock it in place.
2018 5.0 engine lightly turn ccw until stops ( 1/4 turn I think ) then gently wiggle & pull ( " O " ring ) when oil stream hits exhaust pipe you will need to clean up a lot of stuff !
Thanks. Problem is it wont turn and don't want to force it.
It's designed to be stiff when screwed in so that it doesn't vibrate loose. You should see the two little "ears" on the plug in contact with matching "ears" on the pan. Turn counterclockwise. If you need to, use a pair of pliers. As it turns, it will cam itself out a bit. Wiggle then get the rags and oil-dri out to clean up the mess.
OR
Get a piece of soft aluminum flashing from Home Depot, wrap the end around the exhaust pipe to act as a deflector to direct the stream of red hot oil into your collection pan.
2020 5.0 The drain plug can be hard to turn.
I have to use pliers to get it started. Here are my solutions to reduce the mess. The funnels came from Walmart. The small one goes on the rear filter drain. With the truck on ramps, the filter oil all ran to the rear drain. The red funnel was modified using a hole saw sized for the sway bar and snips to allow it to snap on the sway bar. I had to loosen the drain plug before I put it on.
