I’m positive this has happened to someone else before. I have a door ajar problem. I have a 2006 F250 6.0 diesel and I’ve been having my right rear door ajar come up on the dash board with sound alert and dome light on. I replaced the parts inside the door with no luck. The strange thing about this is that as I’m driving it will go on and off. When I press the brake pedal it goes away. As soon as I let go of the pedal it will eventually come back on. The door ajar sound and the dome light come on for a second and then go off but the panel will always say right rear door ajar until I press the brake pedal. Am I missing something? Why would that be anyway connected to my brake pedal? It’s driving me crazy.
I’m not sure about the rear doors as I have extended cabs, but on the front doors, there is a plunger switch at the bottom of the door latch and actuator motor that has continuity until the door shuts and latches…
when the latch opens or closes (can’t remember which) it sends a ground to the interior light relay which is on a timer and lights up the dome and courtesy lights if you have them (not sure about the instrument cluster light)
the weird thing is in ‘05 they changed the plunger switches to operate backwards…meaning they would gain continuity when the door opens…
I figured this out from getting door latches from the junkyard out of an 05-07 truck and that switch was the only part that didn’t work…
Its a weird way to determine whether a door is open or not but that’s how they did it and I tried to tap into it so I could wire in courtesy lights which didn’t work because of the circuit…
maybe that plunger switch is bad at the bottom of the actuator or the latch itself isn’t triggering it…
if those were all replaced, then the problem is within the wiring and I wish you the best of luck!!
I've had to tape a penny to the felt pad in order to get the switch to engage on some older fords I've had. Check the pad and make sure it isn't crushed to **** preventing the switch from being depressed
The door ajar switch is most likely bad. It's not unusual on these trucks. It's not terrible to change. You can also unplug the switch and the truck just thinks the door is closed all the time. I still see them in my shop from time to time. I hadn't seen one in several months and last week I had 2 come in needing switches.
