I was driving home and the truck was running fine and then about 8 blocks from my house it died I didn’t realize it died till I had no steering or breaks. I pulled over and tried to start it and just a crank no check engine light or anything I have a hair above a 1/4 tank of fuel in it. I also just changed the oil and fuel filter about a month ago. I also add fuel additive about every other fill up. I will mess around with it more in the morning when it is day light and up date this post on what I find
Check fuel bowl for fuel. Does the WTS light come on with the key on before cranking? Put 5 gals of fuel in if you haven't modified the fuel pickup in the tank.

the WTS light does come on when I turn the key on before cranking. Do the 7.3s have issues when you get close to a 1/4 tank of fuel ?
Check the fuses. The one for the PCM and fuel heater is probably blown. unplug the heater from the bac of the bowl and replace the fuse. Do not plug the heater back in, you don't need it and it's a fire hazard.

Whoops my bad, I read that as "WTS light doesn't come on". Disregard the bowl heater diagnosis.

I am getting fuel to my fuel bowl just drained fuel bowl removed filter and turned key on plenty of fuel coming in the fuel bowl I am going to put the fuel filter back on in a second

I am getting fuel to the fuel bowl on the top of the engine

fuels good I am getting fuel to the fuel bowl I removed the filter and turned the key on it is not a factory filter it’s aftermarket I am having a hard time getting it to go back on might just buy a new filter I have about 300 -500 miles on this filter. I was doing some digging could it be a crank position sensor ? And how would I test that sensor to see if it’s bad ?
Update. I plugged my scan tool in to see if I could get in to live data to see crank position and my scanner was acting up and didn’t wanna connect to the truck. Possibly a blown fuse to pcm ? Or a completely different issue
Edit. My scan tool is pretty basic just learned that you need a break out box so that’s probably why it’s not working properly sometimes I can get it to connect and scan codes and sometimes it won’t I ran a scan and didn’t have any concerning codes

What do you have for a scan tool? These trucks don't play well with most of them and Forscan is the cheapest way to get into it. You'll need a dongle that works and the software is free at the app store.

There really isn't a reliable test for the CPS. They are a cheap part so everyone just keeps a spare in the truck. Don't bother with any engine management sensors that aren't Motorcraft and from a reputable source. Ebay and Amazon are littered with fakes and knockoffs. A working scan device is necessary for any reliable diagnostics on these trucks otherwise it's just playing part darts until you get lucky.
Getting fuel to the bowl and having the necessary fuel pressure are two different things. The lack of codes does suggest a fuel issue simply because it's the only part of the equation the PCM can't monitor, so no codes. If you can manage a connection and you trust your scanner something you can try is an extended crank for 30 seconds. If it doesn't start it should force a code that hopefully points to why. If you decide to try you will want to make sure the batteries are topped up and ready. 30 seconds of draw from the starter is a big ask and if voltage drops below 10v it will all have been for nothing.

il try that tomorrow I have the batteries on a trickle charger at the moment to make sure they stay topped off as for fuel pressure what pressures am I looking for and where do I test that at ?

This is the method most people recommend while just troubleshooting. A permanent gauge to the after filter port is always a good idea, but let’s get it running before discussing that. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/a...4&d=1592859516
Easier than trying to check the pressure is just adding 5 gallons to the tank. If the pickup foot broke off that will “fix” it and you have a decent idea what you’re working with. Of course if that doesn’t work then we still won’t know if the pressure is ok… I’d still start by adding some fuel though.
Does it connect to your phone? If it does, download the FORScan lite app and see if you can use them together.
Otherwise you can pick up a OBD Bluetooth dongle on Amazon to use with FORScan. Again, make sure others have had good luck with it before purchasing though. Get one that has reviews saying they’ve used it with FORScan.
