just got a 1986 4.9 i-6 4x4. it ran fine until the other day while driving home it developed a backfire. today it would not start. it had fuel, but no spark. so i changed the tfi module and coil, still no spark... im lost now. please help
That sounds electrical, and maybe even self-inflicted.
When you turn the key on, you should see 6 or 7 volts(Appx) at the coil.
When the key is moved over to 'start' you should see 12 volts (appx)
If you have that, you have ignition voltage from the Battery through the Ign control module.
Next you'll have to test the pickup coil in the Distributor.
Are you sure you haven't left a wire off somewhere?
Did you have the correct part when you swapped?
thanks for the help,
it is a electronic feedback carb. when i swaped the tfi module and the coil i only had a test light, and i saw power in the start and key on at the coil, but i couldnt tell how much, ill have to check again with my volt meter. the parts i swaped were the same, and i drove the truck home the night before. ill look for loose wires. thanks again for the help
