I have a '98 F250LD XLT 4x4 w/ 5.4L and E4OD. I want to "assist" my transmission and use my truck to pull a gooseneck horse trailer. I pulls fine stock but I am considering using TransGo shift kit. I installed one on a '95 F150 that really improved shifts. I have also heard good things about some after market chips. I am not a transmission expert. I know modifying an engine for more power can also reduce longeivity in order to increase hp. The TransGo shift kit just drills out holes in valve body and changing springs to increase flow and pressure. I am trying to avoid future problems and prolong my transmission life. I know eventually the clutches will still wear out. I don't want to do anything to make it happen sooner though. I would like input from someone who knows more about the automatic transmissions. My truck performs fine stock but I use a F350 to pull heavier loads and may depend more on this lighter truck as they both get older. I'd rather pull my light loads with the F250 because it is 4x4 and also more comfortable on longer trips. I have no experience with the chips and do not know how they influence pressure. I don't want to install both if they contradict each other or do the same things. If they will wear my transmission out faster I will not install either. Thanks for any assistance.
