Why would you want to do this? There isn't a cheap way around the tone ring for the ABS. If you go to a 9", you won't have ABS in the rear.

That sensor is not just an ABS sensor, it controls your speed input, which controls cruise, speedo, odometer, shift points, etc etc. The 9" is about the same as the 8.8, there are pros and cons to both and you will not gain anything by swaping to the 9" if your doing it for strength. The 8.8s are a dime a dozen, easy to get if yours is damaged.

The 9" is comparable in strength to a Dana60. Some parts of the 9" are even stronger than the same parts in a D60, so yes..you will gain strength. Stronger axle shafts, full float kit, and a full axle truss will make the 9" unbreakable with more clearance than a D60.
As for the speedsensor, i'm still trying to figure out the easiest way.

I've been doing some research and have been told, the only way is to change transmisions with one that has a wheel speed sensor. If there is no other way, I'm S.O.L. I appreciate your imput, thank you.

There is another way, and it's very simple to do but requires a little math and a little fabrication. There is a place that sells slip-yoke eliminators for the BW13-56 tcase, with the purchase of that and making up a small sproket (like what is found in the 8.8) with the corrct amount of teeth, you can mount a speed sensor righ above it.

FordPerf300,
Thank you for the help. Now I'm going to see what kind of damage I can do.
