Not spinning fast enough
I have an old 59 f100 I am restoring,I've been working on getting the original 272 running.it cranks slowly,I think to slow to fire, I put a brand new battery in it,I've pulled the starter down and put 12 v to it and it spins like it should. I have not been able to load test the starter ,no auto parts have the capability to test a 59 starter. I've removed the valve covers and ensured the valve train is operating properly no bent pushrods, it will build oil pressure but takes awhile,put PB blaster in every cylinder,put new points, condenser,plugs,wires,cap and spark plugs.what am I missing? Obviously it's not locked up,

If its' been sitting for a long time, I'd first remove and clean all the battery cables, it could be the cylinders have some surface rust, pull the plugs and crank it over using penetrate or auto trans fluid in the cyl's.

I would agree with F5 ford girl. Could be rust in cylinders which would offer a lot of resistance. Maybe valves or bearings are gummed up from old oil and/or gas that found it’s way into crank case.Have you tried turning it be hand, such as with a flex handle? I would be inclined to try that and listen for noises. Some old trucks were parked because they out-lived their usefulness. Some were parked for other reasons, including engine problems. Perhaps a broken ring? Bent valves or pushrods from a loose timing chain?
