Good day all. I have a 2018 F350 King Ranch. The heated steering wheel has quit. From what I read this not unusual. If someone has things beyond fuse and connections to check, please chime in. Here is my real question though. My truck does not have adaptive cruise control. Can I either purchase a new steering wheel with the adaptive cruise control switch group and activate the option in forscan or of I can find the heated steering wheel fault and repair it. Can I just purchase the switch cluster and activate it?
There is a HSWM module mounted under the dash near the steering wheel that may be bad also. You'll have to check it to see if it's sending a signal out. As for the adaptive cruise control, there is more than just "activating it". You have to have the sensor mounted in the bumper, the wiring and the truck has to be told it has the sensor. This can all be check with ForScan if you have it or access to IDS. There's a couple of threads both here and on the F150 forum that have great details about the adaptive cruise addition. I did it on my 2017 F250 and it only cost me about $700. I got lucky cause I got the wiring harness from a junkyard and the sensor also. I had to buy the brackets, cover, the steering wheel switch cluster and any other nuts, bolts, studs and things like that. It takes a while to get it all installed and working properly, but it can be done. I also got the dash HUD panel from the same truck in the junkyard. All the junkyard pieces cost me about $300, but that was cheaper than the price of just the sensor at the time. On my 2016 F150, I added the heated steering wheel to it and thats why I know you might have a bad module for it. You'll have to do some troubleshooting to see what the problem is, whether it's the steering wheel, fuses or whatever. Good luck with all of it. Having the heated steering wheel AND adaptive cruise control is well worth the effort to do it.
