I’m starting to collect components to refresh my A/C system. I just ordered a CSF condenser and I’m now looking at compressors.
From what I’ve found, the correct OEM compressor part number is HU2Z19703K. (~$375)
Here’s where it gets interesting. When I plug in that part number into Rock Auto they come back with a Motorcraft part number YCC490 (~$288)
Then when I enter my truck, 2001 Excursion, Limited w/ 7.3 in Rock Autos search for a compressor, they show part number Motorcraft NYCC5 (~$138). Supposedly a manufacturer close out.
All three state that they are brand new, not rebuilt. That’s a huge difference in price and the part numbers are all very different but they all say they fit.
Can anyone shed some some light on this, are they all the same? If not which one is definitely the right and best choice?
I ran into this exact same issue a few months back when I thought my clutch had gone bad. Ended up being a dirty evap core luckily. Then the rear expansion valve failed and both filters were covered with dye/goo.
There are 3 compressors for the 7.3/6.0 engine. Excursion with rear AC, Excursion without rear AC, and Superduty.
The Part #HU2Z19703K you listed comes back to a 2001 Superduty. It has lower capacity/flowrate since it isn't designed for Tri-zone. use one of these instead. These are listed for a 2001 7.3 Excursion. If you lookup your rig in RockAuto, you should get this exact same list. Rock Auto guarantees their compatability charts, so I'd trust it over the part number you think is correct.

I'm thinking you meant:"Excursion with rear AC, Excursion withoutrearAC, and Superduty". It's obvious putting a Superduty unit on an Excursion with rear A/C would yield poor performance, but I'm wondering if it would be beneficial the other way around...putting a compressor for an Excurion with rear A/C on a Superduty. Those do look like decent prices on those compressors you listed from Rock Auto.
Proofreading failed me. Lol. I’ll go sneaky edit that
yeah, meant with and without rear AC
on the 6.0 this even affects belt length. Not sure how it applies to the 7.3.
all my Superduties have always had great cooling capacity. So while the X compressor would work in one, I don’t think it would necessarily be anymore efficient.
So what I’m understanding is a compressor designed for the Superduty may not have the satisfactory performance needed to support the additional rear system in the Excursion?
That’s the way I read it. I went on a deep dive and the Superduty version seems to have a lower flow rate. And a smaller pulley.
The pulleys on my F350 and the wife's Excursion...both 7.3L power plants...are the same diameter. Maybe it's something internal relative to orifice flow rate...
I ordered the NYCC5 from Rock Auto. It was only $166.23 with tax and shipping. Talking to the shop who will do the installation, he said that the NYCC5 is RA’s part number so people don’t cross reference. That makes sense since Google shows no results other than RA.
When it arrives I’ll find out it’s part number and post it. They advertise it as a supplier close out hence why it’s discounted. It says it’s a brand new Motorcraft part and fits the Excursion. I haven’t seen or heard of an Excursion without rear a/c.
I’ll find out soon enough if I made a good purchase.
Also ordered a CSF condenser and a Motorcraft dryer. The shop has the little filters for both front and rear. They said that should be all I’ll need. All the a/c hoses were replaced about 1-1/2 yrs ago. The only thing left is flushing the system, installing the new parts and filling with refrigerant (4-1/2 lbs?). ~$600 labor.
Total job parts and labor estimated at just under $1,200 and I should have icy cold a/c. Let’s see!
The a/c compressor arrived today and even though I looked, still can’t confirm if it’s right. The part number on the box is G2MZ 19V703 E. Rock Auto advertises it as correct as shown in the above post.
After more research and several phone calls, I could not get Ford to confirm what either of the two part numbers on the box applied to so I decided to return the compressor to RA. It f course they charged me $8 for return shipping. I was willing to pay it but out of principle I had to challenge it.
Here’s their response,

I give them credit for making good on the deal however their mistake was a big waste of time.
I’ve since learned that Ford does specify part number 4R3Z 19703 A / YC2523, however it does not include the clutch assembly that is the pulley, coil, and I think one other small part. Still researching.
Compressor is on its way now.
