I was just browsing to find more resources for my work in progress, 1983 Econoline, and came across this forum which looks like it's got a lot of great information.
My van is called 'Heavy Otis' and he's a Southern Comfort edition v8 302 with just under 100k miles. Bought it from the 2nd owner back in March 2024 who had it for 14 years and didn't drive it much. There's some rust, but nothing crazy. I've been gradually working on it and got the master cylinder, brakes, shocks and a few other things replaced so far. Next repair is tie rods and king pins. I'll attach a couple pictures.
The king pins might be seized in there hard
A rosebud torch tip on an oxy acetylene rig helps
Enjoy that 83
You will not have any of the computer capacitor issues that us with the newer ones have
With weather like yours, you just need a good operating choke, and more importantly, a working choke pulloff
Have fun with it
yeah I would imagine. I was doing the brakes myself until I got down to the rear drums and couldn’t get them off for the life of me. Took it to a local tire shop and they got the job done…imagine they had to use a torch as well.
I’ll definitely be taking it somewhere in town to do the king pins. I’m just not equipped to do it myself here.
