Tell that to the owner of an old non-turbo'ed 7.3 liter. They make oodles of low-end torque but very low horsepower. They are great stump pullers but are rather lacking when it comes time to pull a load up a grade at highway speeds.
In my opinion there is no denying that the 351W/302 from the 90's do not perform to their capabilities.

That is true chris I hadnt thought of it that way. I guess the right way to look at this would be to make the power as low in the rpm range as you can with such a big rig. torque gets you moving and hp takes over from there. Hp and torque above 4500rpms wont do you to much good because these motors rarly see that mark unless heavy 4x4in is takin place. I agree in a sense that these motors are detuned for various reasons. way back when the auto makers could lie a bit more on what the hp rating was of a motor, but today technology has made it a bit more difficult to get away with it.
