Hey, 1956 F100 owner here. I need front shocks and am wondering if the 1957-1960 shocks are the same stem-stem style as my '56. If yes, what are you all doing for replacements?
So now my question is this:
Would anyone on this forum have a set of front shocks laying about that could be measured for compressed and extended length? I'm thinking I might be able to use '57-60 shocks on my '56 since it uses stem mounts at both ends.
I guess I would determine the specific part number of a particular brand that is spec. for each and then chase down the dimensions of each to verify the compatibility.
Turns out both upper shock mounts were cracked. I believe the 30 year old KYBs I had on there were too short, bottoming out and possibly fatiguing the brackets. The mounts are the same 1956-1960. Wound up replacing them both with ones sourced through LMC. They are dimensionally identical to the originals and much stouter. Removing the rivets was the hardest part. Went with Bilstein 55-RO56 shocks which will fit 1956-1960. These shocks have extended/compressed lengths of 17.25/10.8 inches.
