Hey , first oof my name is James Finch, I am new to your sight. I have a 48 F1 that belonged to my dad and now it's mine it has as far as I can tell a 53 merc flathead but it's realy hard to make out any vin tags. All I can really make out is the numbers and letter's stamped in the firewall and a stencnext to that. Stamped on the firewall is ( 30CI7 ) and stenciled above it is ( 3 1 48 ) . is there a possibility that one of you can help ID my truck. Thanks Jim
Welcome to the forum! You somehow managed to post to the 1947 and Older Ford Trucks section. If your truck is really a 1948, you should try posting in the 1948-56 Ford Truck section (unless a moderator moves this there for you).
Firewall stampings can be production plant specific and glean some production details on the vehicle, but are not related to the trucks identity (Serial/VIN).
The true identity is typically stamped into the top of the passenger or sometimes driver's side frame rail at the front crossmember, and duplicated on various tags on the firewall and glove box.
Now, a 53 flathead doesn't directly fit in a 48, so some adaptations to the engine/vehicle or story have happened.
Anyways, welcome to the best place on the Internet for these trucks. We love pictures, so don't hesitate to introduce us to your truck with a few!
Once you get your serial, we can help you decode everything.
@JimboFinch , any chance you have found some more numbers or able to take some good pictures of what you have so the experts here can help ya figure some things out?
