Help identifying front vs rear calipers

Just ordered calipers from RockAuto. Friend thought they were helping by pulling the individual caliper boxes from the big box they sent the pairs in. Didn't note the part numbers on the outer box or match up the shipping sheet... and the individual boxes have no labels or info inside.

They look so alike I can't tell front from back:
Near one stamped 4507 on the caliper bracket
Near one stamped 4507 on the caliper bracket

The caliper pistons are different sizes... The 4507 ones are thinner, the unstamped ones are thicker:

Right one stamped 4507 on the caliper bracket
Right one stamped 4507 on the caliper bracket

Before I take the old ones off tomorrow, can anyone tell me which is front vs rear? I'm guessing the more stout pistons are front but no idea.

Looking at the photos on rock autos website the caliper on the left is for the rear. Right is front.

I'll be honest, I don't trust their site. Ordering these (along with rotors, pads, etc) the order went through, then an hour later "sorry, we are out of stock on your item" (fronts). A few hours later, I log on and find replacements. Then about 2 hours after that, another message that they are out of stock on the rear.

Why their system couldn't detect that they were out of stock on both makes me now question just about everything that their website shows.

and when looking at their shock absorbers, the ones that they list that are compatible with our trucks, only has one Loop on one end. I was under the belief that our shocks had a loop at the top and the bottom. Therefore I don't really trust their photos.

According to the Power Stop site 4790 is front and 4752 is for the rear. The picture on both caliper listings is the same so they must use a stock photo.

Rob, remember that on the earlier builds in 2000 the bleeder screw is facing in the opposite direction

No, I don't remember, LOL.

I'm simply trying to figure out which is the front vs rear calipers, LOL.

I wanted to respond earlier but decided not to... I think they may have sent you the wrong calipers.

The rear should have the fins on them and front should be smooth faced. Front calipers are typically larger as they do the majority of the work. You should easily be able to tell the difference between front/ rear calipers.

Looking on amazon and customer images, the rear have the fins and fronts are smooth faced as i mentioned.

Rear on top, front on bottom

that's just a stamping on the bracket, not the caliper part number. You did not receive the correct calipers. It appears the ones you pictured on the left with no stamping should be the rears. They did not send you the proper fronts and are most likely rears as well, but not sure about the piston cups.

they clearly have similar pics to what i posted above on the powerstop website. a few members provided what caliper part numbers you should have gotten.

EDIT, I just zoomed in on powerstops rear caliper pic. they have a 4507 stamped on the caliper itself. If you ask me, they sent you 2 sets of rears but they used some cheap thin walled piston on one set...possibly steel vs phenolic

Pulled the wheels off, you are correct, both are rears. One (thin piston) has 4507 on the caliper bracket and the caliper) . The other (thick wall piston) only has 4507 on the caliper.

Guess I'm gonna have to screw with Rock Auto again. Will NEVER order parts from them again.

Sorry, they messed up your plans. Hopefully they attempt to make things right for you.

I'm still curious why 1 set has thin piston and the other more traditional thickness. That's kind of a scary thought in itself...inconsistencies in their products... In the event they got everything right but you got one of ea rear caliper; I would still not be happy

I'm guessing since these are reman calipers (the "new" ones they had listed as in stock were in fact not in stock, so I requested these as replacements), that the company who remanufactured them used different suppliers. I did keep the thick-walled piston models and sent the thin-walled ones back. Waiting on the fronts to arrive. Hoping to have these done before the other front end components arrive (new ball joints, U joints (just in case), and tie rods).
