Hey guys trying to track down a new vibration that started today...
When im in 5th gear and the torque convertor is locked if I let off the gas i am getting a vibration. I don't know how else to describe it other than it feels like riding on the rumble strips.
when it first happened it was in a construction zone and I thought it was rumbles in the road but it wasn't.
the noise is very reproducible. On the gas no noise. Let off instantly feel it and it instantly stops once I'm back on the gas.
trucks a 6.4l powerstroke diesel. It is lifted 3" on 35s.
the only other driveline issue i have ever noticed is that from a dead stop when I take off the truck creaks/ vibrates slightly and then once i am moving it stops.
I read a bunch of stuff and no one seems to have an answer. I do need new front hubs anyways so I ordered those. Someone did mentioned it was a set of bad front hubs for them.
who did the lift? and do the newer trucks still use a carrier bearing? Typically when you lift the truck, it needs carrier bearing shims.
I had some vibration issues on my 03 when I lifted it some I had to play with shims until I minimized/ got rig of the vibration issue.
quickest thing to check are u-joints and the rearend as pikachu mentioned
I'd check u-joints first, my 02 F350 started vibrating, was in my busy winter time, so I took it to the only local shop I trust, new carrier bearing and u-joints, good as new, rear u-joint was the worst, the other were close to being done, I did the carrier bearing because they were dropping the ds to do the joints, glad I did it all.
Exactly what was done to lift the rear? This sounds like the rear differential angle is off just a bit. Classic symptom and easy fix with the proper shims
