2005 f250 super duty Harley-Davidson edition 6.8 V10 3 valve changed out the starter and the starter doesn't want to line up and won't mess with the ring gear it won't engage it just keeps hitting the ring gear suggestions

 

Wrong starter obviously, probably gave you one for a manual trans or automatic, whichever one you don't have. Hadn't heard of that happening on such a new truck but back in the day it sure was an issue. Regardless it's obviously not the right starter if you're mounting it properly.
