I've read a lot of posts but nothing seems to match up to what I'm experiencing, I'm 17 and I bought a 99 f350 with the v10 and noticed when I went up hills on the freeway it would lose power leaving me crawling at 40 mph and made a rattle/vibrating noise along with a misfire but it would go back to normal after a minute or 2. After a while it started doing it in town it would make a noticeable but slight misfire and vibrating noise before going completely bad and sounding like an old tractor. I've replaced the fuel filter, all 10 plugs, and 3 plug boots so then I tested it on the freeway and it did amazing but the next day it happened in town again but it had a some more power and wasn't missing as bad so I'm not sure what I shoukd check next any advice would be helpful thank you.
check for a plugged cat converter. just open up the pipe before the cat, and take her for a spin, see how that is. itll be loud, but if its like mine, the heat and ping and loss of power will be gone
Thank you for your response Nope no check engine light and I have the exhaust cut off before the cat so it definitely can't be clogged lol is there a way to tell if the fuel pumps bad before I go out and buy a new one?
welcome to the site
25 years old, unknown to us mileage i would also be leaning to the fuel pump failing , to test it there's a test fitting near the intake on the fuel lines , you might be able to rent a tester from autozone or local parts store .
what state are you in? truck have federal or CA emissions
Fuel pressure test:
Should be 28-30 psi @ idle
38-40 psi with vacuum line disconnected from regulator @ idle
If no pressure change when disconnecting vacuum line, regulator could be bad
@ 2000RPM, pressure should read 38-40 psi
As always, those values are reference, anything near that should be OK.
