I have a 97 f250 HD and my hubs wouldn't lock when I took off the hub on the driver side you can see the axle is not centered in the spindle. I replaced every bearing race and seal on that side and it still sits the same! It can't be the axle because it's always in the same position in the spindle. Crooked! Does anybody have any ideas what is going on with my Dana 50 front axle?? Help!!
The axle does intentionally have some play and it makes sense that it would be crooked with the hub out because the hub is what supports it on the outer end.
Absolutely correct
The stub shaft floats in the hub, supported only by the spindle bearing (and the outer hub body)
Might want to pack that spindle bearing and see how the hub goes back together completely
The stub shaft
You'll see that it floats in there, and is never really straight looking
put truck in park and transfer case in 2 wheel drive. jack up the wheel and put hub in lock position. reach behind the wheel and grab the axle. gently turn the wheel. if the axle spins, the locking hub is good. if the axle does not spin, the locking hub is bad.
