Shift indicator dances between D and M
First issue that happens was I went to the store for about 10minute, went to leave and the truck started fine, put into Drive and it was like it was in neutral, put it in Reverse and got it back into the stall. Tried Drive again and nothing again but noticed the gear indicator went straight to 5th gear, tried reverse again that was normal got back into the parking stall and put it into Park. Shut it off then restarted and it hasn't done that since.
Now, the second issue is that most every time I go into D it will illuminate the M then it will dance back to D immediately and it will go into gear with no issues but it seems like what ever sensor or de tent that the shifter/column uses to stop at each gear is either worn down or maybe its out of sync? My last super was a 00 7.3 with the zf6 so this new electronic stuff it out of my wheel house.
Trans shifts good, fluid looks and smells good.
The shifter itself I would consider it a little looser than I would think it should be so maybe there's a plastic bushing or something inside the column that needs replaced but wanted some opinions before I go tearing into the expensive interior pieces of a KR in the new age.
Thanks for any help
Do you plan to replace your range sensor? I'm not sure what controls what we see on the dash and what controls what gear the trans gets put into, I would think they are the same? I'll look into this thanks!

My truck, throws a wrench light, tue PRNDL goes dark and the gear indicator goes away. If youre on the road when this happens it throws the trans right into 6th gear as a limp mode. At first it was brief occurrences. It has evolved quite quickly. It has gotten to the point where if the wrench light is when you key on, it will not allow the truck to start, as a default neutral safety feature, because it doesnt know what range its in. It will start fine when the trans is cold, but you can watch it just idling, as the trans temp warms up to 120°+ it begins to get glitchy, in & out, until it becomes permanent. It has also set permanent range sensor voltage codes.
In my first dealings with my problem, I looked up a range sensor. OEMfordparts.com pulled up part number CC3Z-7H557-B which is a dedicated range sensor. I dropped my pan a few days ago to make an attempt at tackling this job, only to find the whole valve body has to be dropped to do this job, and the 6R100 does not have a dedicated range sensor. I assume they sold me one for the 6R140. The 6R100, as it turns out is basically just a beefed up 6R80 and shares some parts… including a lead frame. The range sensor is built into the lead frame and if you spend any time on F150 forums, 6R80 lead frames are notorious for these issues.
I have since ordered and received a new OEM lead frame from EBAY, seeing as how no OE ford parts dealers seem to have them. Tje ebay purchase also came with the bulk head gasket. And I also ordere the pass through connector.
With the help of Fordtechmakuloko’s detailed video on a 6R80 lead frame replacement and the digital 17,553 page ford shop manual I bought for $70, I will be tackling this job in the coming days.
part numbers are as follows:
lead frame : AL3Z-7G276-D
bulk head gasket: AL3Z-7F401-A
pass through connector: 6L2Z-7G276-AA
