2011 E-350, 5.4 & 4R70W transmission. 290k miles. Hard rough shifting, TCC locking early, had P1742 & P1743 codes. Replaced the TCC Solenoid and wire harness with factory Ford parts.
Refilled the transmission with approximately 8.5 quarts of Mercon LV.
Started engine and put selector in Reverse, no engagement, Drive and no engagement, Second also no engagement. Pulled all the way to Low/First and transmission engaged in a forward gear. When moving the gear selector back up through the gears it remained in the forward gear, even in the Neutral position. When moved from Neutral to Reverse and before the selector was moved completely into Reverse the converter locked up and the engine stalled. My scan tool says the PCM is calling for 1st gear in all ranges, it also shows the selector at the transmission moving in sync with the shifter on the column, in other words, when I put the column shifter in Reverse or Drive, the scan tool shows either Reverse or Drive as selected.
There is no change or difference in behavior between warm (130*+) fluid and cold start temps (50*).
There are no DTC's at this time, no fuses have blown.
I will say that the trans should be a 4R75E the successor to the 4R75W. Mercon LV is correct. Check the range sensor. Make sure column shift linkage is tight. So on, so forth.
Mine is an OTC Nemisys, updated through 2011. I will say that I don't feel nearly so stupid after having the bus over at another shop to try to figure this thing out. Been over there four days now and no closer to working right. They even have the latest, greatest version of the Snap-On Solus with the latest updates.
