I have a 2007 F250 Super Duty Diesel. In the past, I would get a notice of low fuel warning, and it would show that I had 50 miles to go, and that was pretty accurate.
For the last 2 times when the low fuel warning, I could only travel approximately 1 mile before the engine would die, which means that I am stranded without any fuel.
Does anyone know what I need to fix the problem short of keeping it full before it gets below 1/4 tank?
The plastic pickup screen at the bottom of the pickup tube in the tank has probably broken off. It's quite common, actually. It isn't a particularly difficult fix, but you'll need to drop the tank.

It shouldn't if you have a poly tank with the spin on retainer for the sending unit, but while your at it consider doing the Hutch mod, or at least cleaning the screens in the mixing chamber in the tank. If you have a steel tank, look for signs that the inside tank coating is starting to delaminate.
