Abe, I understood that red21sweep was asking about mounting the running board brackets to the frame, not running boards to various attachment points for which you are correct, are carriage bolts of various sizes.

Duh! My bad. I forgot that's how this thread started out. I wonder if that seller has cad plated carriage bolts.
So I bought the brackets from FB Marketplace and got the bolts...
Got under the truck. The original "rivets" are still in the hole. On the middle bracket location I was able to hammer and punch out 3 of the four. I tried grinding the rest of the fourth, still can't get the middle out!
Suggestions.
Went to the other locations they wont budge at all. Called it a day and came here looking for advice.

A couple I had to drill the center out and then drove them out.
I second that. With the heads ground off already, try to pilot hole the center of the rivet. Then using as large of drill bit as possible , a size that matches your punch, drill down so you are just past the thickness of the frame. This will not only weaken the rivet but give you a nice "socket" to hold your punch in as you bang away.
I found one of these tools work really well on these.
It is supposed to be used to push out door hinge pins. But it will push out rivets that have had their heads ground off of too. Just give it the same sized pilot hole the tools's arbor uses. Maybe a little pricey, but it saves lots of cursing and banging 😉
When using this tool on my rivets I got it very snug, tapped on the tools bolt, tightened it again, tapped on the the bolt, tighten then tap, etc. Pretty soon the rivets stump would pop out! Also I added a deep socket on the "loop" end of the tool to clear the horizontal lower run of the frame where I was working while changing out front spring shackle bearing hangers
