I'm pretty sure I'm having problems with my tps. When I first start it in the morning (not every day) my check engine light comes on and it idles fine but will not go. I was letting it sit for about 5 minutes and then the light would go out and I could go. Well I started hitting the throttle a half dozen times or so and the light would go out and I could go. Is it possible to just clean the tps. I checked at Ford and a new tps is about $130. I'm afraid if I pull it apart and take emory cloth or some thing to it I'll be spending that $130 before I need to.
Before you take the TPS apart you should check to see what ODI codes you have. There are some that will allow the truck to start but not go beond idle. This is what your problem sounds like to me. If you don't have a ODI checker then you should get your truck to the nearest Ford shop.
Last I checked, Ford did not sell the TPS seperately. You have to buy the pedal assy. $130 seems about right for it.

OBD II is the diagnostic system mandated by the fed. that is found aboard every vehicle in the U.S. since '96. DTC's (diagnostic trouble codes) are the codes that scanners pull.
What code are you referencing that allows a vehicle to idle and nothing else?
