So i swapped gear ratios a while back in the rear of my 75 f250 from 4.56 to 3.73. I also swapped the 390 for a built 460. I wanted 4x4 working again so I replaced the front carrier and ring/pinion. However my problem is that I have a small ball standard duty dana 44 8 lug with 19 spline axle shafts. The new carrier is 30 spline. So I tried to replace the axles with a set of chromoly axles. But they are too long for the small ball. The spindles are about an inch away from being able to bolt up because the ujoint is the bigger 760x joint. So now my new plan is to get a open carrier for 3.73 19 spline and put the weak stock axles/joints back in and save for a high pinion axle in the future. But my question is has anyone made newer axles fit the small ball dana 44 with a different spindle or parts combo? If not I'll deal with it until I can afford a newer 78 axle. Thanks.

X2 that question and who was the vendor you ordered them from? If the new axles are too long I would think any quality machine shop could cut /shorten them? I upgraded my early Bronco axles to 4340 chromoly axle shafts (inner and outer) to include having CTM u-joints installed. There was a fitment issue (because of their out sourced) outer short shafts spline cut. The WH team was Johnny on the spot to remedy that.
Those Yukon axles are the ones I have. Says 68-79 f250. 18.62" inner and 9.72" outer. The shafts aren't too long its the yokes that are longer and bigger. The clearance around the yokes in the knuckle are very tight. The old inner axle is tapered where the yoke meets the shaft but on the new axle it has a flat flange on it. Same for the outer axle. I feel like I could add a newer spindle to adapt the outer axle but for the clearance around the yokes and the taper on the inner shaft are the biggest hurdles I think.
Well I know that finding axle parts that fit those 70's ish low pinion D44 front axle can be challenging. Especially if you are not sure what you are even starting out with, at least for me anyway. I could not locate the BOM on the tube.
SIL got a 76 Bronco with a Frankenstein front axle. The PO swapped in a axle from a (?) 73-76 F250 low pinion open knuckle. Then swapped/modded it to have disk brakes (using F250 dual piston brake calipers) and the associated spindle, hub and rotor that are 5 on 5 1/2 lug/wheel pattern.
Not sure if he swapped the steering knuckles. Then he did a tie rod over (TRO) swap, and added hydraulic assist to the steering. I am in search of a long side axle shaft, the very inner long end splines got stripped. And I think the 3rd member bearing are shot. That is what might of caused the strippage issue. It is on the bottom of the project list.
I think if you call Torque King 4X4 they might have the answer to your quandary. And if we can collaborate and the axles you have can not be returned, but if we can confirm that they will work for me. I am more than willing to purchase them.
