That picture from mid fifty is not right, the top rubber should be between the frame and the support, not inside it.Do not know how you have it.

If the crossmember was that bent it would be apparent. It's more likely you just need to add more of the pieces, the deflectors, aprons and support rods that hold everything together and in place.

Wayne if you're gonna post pics of my 54 239 Yblock show up to date pictures after I detailed the engine! LOL

To answer the OP's question, I think the saddle does lean back a bit.

I am not an expert, by any means.
I think the top leans forward.

That is why the original radiator mount is tapered.

I had to remove that original mount to use my new Wizard radiator. That is how I figured out it leans forward.

just mount the core support rod brackets on and install the core support rods, that should show you the ballpark location

Even if it is off you should be able to get it where it goes with everything installed

When I installed my core support, I did not have the cab on the truck. It still is not on.

F100fun, Jim had a great idea where he made a bracket off the frame horns to hold the core support in the right location. I took his idea and modified it to be adjustable.

The PO had shortened the frame horns, so I needed an extension, on the frame.

I do not think there is anything wrong with the Mid Fifty picture shown above.

My 55 looks like that.

The X brace did not exist on the 1953 model, as I recall. It did not take Ford long to figure out how necessary it was.

The picture from mid fifty is wrong , it says top rubber is inside support, it should be under the support. If you do it like the picture the support is is sitting on the cross member with no rubber between them.
