you might think it is a myth, but I worked as an IT Tech for 60 years, and I have seen my share of problems caused with dielectric grease on/in connections. just don't do it.
the manufacturers plainly state, to use it to seal out moisture, not inside the connections.
I don't remember how to do it but you can jump the relays to engage/ disengage 4x4. IIRC, it doesn't matter what position the esof switch is in. This could tell you what direction the problem is in. it's very possible you just need a new actuator, IDK. it could be a number of issues.
