Wondering how many digits the odometer had on the 1983 F150's did they go beyond 99,999.9 miles or kilometres or continue on. I don't recall when they added the extra digit..reason I ask is the motor I have came out of a 83 F150..
Thanks, that answers my question I was beginning to suspect this motor had more than the 93K I was told it had. Still runs fairly well but can see it's using oil..so mine likely has over 200 k

Only 5 digit odometers until the ‘92-96/7 body style.
Thanks, I wasn't sure when they added the extra digit. I may need to have this engine freshened up in the next couple years if the smoking gets any worse..
I'm fine regarding the extra number. I picked the motor out of 83 F150 because the guy told me that the 93K was the original mileage on the truck, he may have been fooled too. I'm thinking now the mileage was actually 193 K. I got it for nothing so wasn't ripped of just mislead. Engine runs fine but noticed the blue smoke out the exhaust when it's idling.

You can do a compression check. If that is good, new valve seals may get rid of the smoke and oil usage. If you have any light knocking or low oil pressure, a rebuild is probably in order. You can plumb in a mechanical oil gauge and see what your oil pressure is. You can't go by the factory gauge.
Oil pressure is just below 40 psi after it warms up to operating temperature, over 50 at start up. I did do the valve seals two years ago. There is no knocking and will do a compression test again over winter. I was using 10 W 30 but put 5 W 30 synthetic last oil change, not sure it that makes a difference..

I'm surprised no owners of Canadian built Fords have replied as I believe they do have an extra digit when the odometer is reading kilometers. So 9,999,999.9 klicks to turn over.
Thanks, I never paid much attention to the odometer other than it read 93K ,don't remember if there was a 0 before it or if it started with the 9. Truck is long gone and the motor sat in my shop until I used it in this..
I dont have the full part number but I know it is a E1TZ (1981), its a Million Mile Odometer speedometer that I picked up NOS off ebay. The red tenths mile indicates its a replacement gauge cluster and if I remember right I want to say the listing stated these were found on the F450 and larger trucks but I never actually looked into it. I had planned on replacing the odometer drum on my existing cluster as I didnt want to lose my trip odometer, the drums are narrower but the over all width is still larger so it wouldnt be a direct swap so I never did anything with it just put it in its box and tossed it to the side for storage.
I bought one of those speedo like Rusty’s took all of the wheels and gears and placed them in a standard speedo w/ trip. Reset the numbers to match my documented mileage and everything works fine.
