I scored some 1973-79 hood letters --- they look great, better than I thought they would up against the truck.
The---I assume factory looking holes for the letters in my hood are about a 1/4' larger than these....... Are the 1971 letters larger than the 1973-79 letters... part number: D7UB-1140228-AA to DA
They did change them at least once over the years. If not more than once.
Lots of people here know that kind of stuff, so I’ll be interested to hear what they say too.
I dont know the differences from bumpsides to dentsides in the size of the lettering. They do show two different types for the the bumps though, 67-69, and 70-72. On fordi, they mention the earlier were smaller. I had to buy a set for my 72 f250 which had none. https://www.fordification.com/tech/67-72ID_01.htm.
I have what I thought was a 66 or earlier hood that has letters on it. After looking for an image on the web, I do not see a 66 or earlier hood with letters...
Someone must have added them when I wasn't looking........ I don't know what year the hood is now.......
P.S. These look like the letters I have just scored
[img alt="Dennis Carpenter does not recognize the part number D7****** even thou it is clearly on the part! This one is D9TZ-16606-K and the hardware is different from mine , but they my have been added.

This post is bad medicine..............I attached a photo & it shows while I type this edit.......when I save it .........pohto disappears and the jibberish lines appear...................I feel strange............oh no......help me................................................ ......
AFAIK previous to 67 did not have any FORD letters on the hood. 67-72 had letters and they are larger style. Like what is used on F500/600/700's The 73-79 hood FORD letter are all the same and smaller size. At least that is how I remember it.

Thank-you.....
Seriously though, . STRANGENESS: I seem to have a 1971 F100 with Letter holes that look factory , but are to wide
I have another hood that is 1966 or earlier, with 1971 looking letters apparently added by some wild Indian............ maybe......
Carpenter has what looks like my supposedly 1973 letters, (with a (1977 Ford parts prefix,) listed as 1981 or later.....Plus a 1966 or earlier hood with Ford letters from 1971 or so......
Well any chance that 67-72 hood came off a Big Truck ? Like a F500/600/700?
Well Good news & Bad news, with BAD being the mostest
I THINK I have 1971-72 letters on my 66 hood. Letters are 2-1/2" long. That would mean my 1971 hood holes ARE CORRECT (GOOD).
That will not fit (BAD), my nicer what ever year letters, I say 1977 because the prefix is D7, & only 1-7/8" long
Oh, seems it would be DTZ-7, but any way.
The letters on the 66 MIGHT polish up good but I do not like the lines/ridge inside the 71 letters. They may look better polished , but I doubt it( BAD)
Bizarre senerios always find me..............
Lol NO I used one of my parts trucks to make him a card stock pattern, so he knew where to drill the holes in his hood. He used it and it turned out very nice. It is the guy with the REAL NICE 79 black reg cab, 2wd dually. And even his buddy used the pattern.

Is there a new way to spell FORD, because looks like you left out a letter between the F & the O...........ha
That is one reason it looks funny to me, also I'm thinking , does the cardboard stay on, lol.......and the blue tape...oh I figured there was HOPEFULLY some reason why it looked so REDneck.........lol
Glad it turned out great !!!
Wow it does look weird in that pic, but that is the correct OEM spacing. I think it is just the piece of R/H blue tape that is throwing your eyeballs off. The blue tape on the top just held it so I could get the bends around the hood edge. So he had OEM edges to follow when laying the pattern back out. Same for the red tape and the 3 cutouts on the underside. All hoods have that, I am trying to remember the FTE member, hopefully he posts up and comes to my defense. Lol
