Ripped off mud flap, again!?

Somehow I seem to continue ripping my mud flaps off. I have cut them short every time to create more clearance and to drill new holes through the hard flap. I've got 9" of clearance but I ripped one off the other day backing up my loaded dump trailer of Rock. I had to back over something and didn't know the mud flap was gone till later.

Is there a better alternative? I've heard around that the hitch mounted flaps look bad but curious what y'all think. Here are the flaps I have now. Thanks!

I took them OFF, and threw them away

My only thinking that made me want flaps was if the truck in front of me had mudflaps my brand new windshield may not have gotten cracked by the rock that was slung. However it is seeming more and more like I should pull them off. Especially being a 4x4, I'm always getting in situations that rip them off. The front flaps have been fine but they were only for looks with the back ones on there to balance it out. They are too short to do anything lol

If you really wanted mud flaps, the bumper mounted ones would be the ones to get as they are far enough behind your tires you won't back over them. I don't have mud flaps on my pickup, but I do have them on my flatbed. They are bolted to the frame rails a few inches from the end of the rails, which is about two feet behind the rear tires.

Any chance you could snap a pic of your flat bed flaps? Maybe I could mount them to the frame and fabricate a bracket or something. I don't know if I want to get that involved for it though and I may just remove them. I'll sleep on it. Either way they need to come off from where they are mounted now. Thanks!

Normally I use the truck as a flatbed but I had the stake sides on in the pictures I had on my computer. You should still be able to see the mudflaps.

Fender mounted mudflaps will always get ripped off if you have to back over large obstcles that pinch the mudflap between itself and the tire. You will have to mount the mudflap a distance equal to the length of the mudflap for that to not happen. It's simple geometry.

I understand why the flap was ripped off, was just hoping to find better options. Like a frame mount or something that I could get or build. I was mostly hoping to see what setup everyone has but it seems most just throw them away. Which may be me soon

You could use your hitch open box ends with some square tubing, that way they are under the truck and away from the tires.
