I finally decided to replace my 15 year old tires a few months ago (summer) on the dually. I know, I have no idea how I didn't blow off a fender or worse but it's not a daily driver. More of a quarter yearly driver lol. I've never had to add air to the old tires, around 65psi for years depending on cold. A month after replacing I noticed the fronts looked squishy and all 4 alcoas were at 5-15 psi... the steelies in the back were at 70psi. Anyone know if this is the coating on the aluminums causing seal issue or something? I would like to shine them up again but I think i read years ago we can't because of said coating, they have to be stripped down to the metal.
I'll talk to wheel shop i know but any input would be nice if somebody went through this.

the only way to know for sure is to take the tires off the rims.
every 3-4 years i have to remove the tires on my aluminum rims and clean the corrosion off the beads then remount the tires.
once the beads on the rims are cleaned, they stop leaking..... for 3-4 years.
They can be shined up somethin fierce. My brother took mine up to his polish guy (he has a fleet of tractor / trailers) and had them stripped down and polished…. I haven’t seen them in real life yet but in the pic he showed me they look fantastic. I’ll get them back probably tomorrow, I’ll try and remember to post a pic in here when I get them back.
Ok, we're getting somewhere. This bead corrosion, is it the coating and has anyone here successfully removed it
yes it can be removed. i use an air powered right angle grinder with 2 inch course roll lock sanding discs. brown wheels.

gently along the bead until the corrosion is all gone, i also gently hit the bead of the tire to get clean rubber.
i then usually put a thin coating of bead sealer on the rim and remount the tire.
on the snow plow trucks i usually have to do it every 2-3 years. on non plow trucks it usually last 6-8 years or at each tire change before i have to do it again.
