Should you find yourself in the situation of thinking, "belt conditioner" will stop your belt squeal. It won't, don't do it. That's not why you're here though. You now realize that you have a tacky, gross mess. 99% rubbing alcohol does nothing, hot water? Nothing. Here's what you use:
-diesel, takes it right off, out of every pulley, and is very cheap. I had to use it on the belt as well, not great, but that's the situation.
be sure to clean off the diesel as best you can. Now mine sounds more like radio static than it does an audio file of hell.
We use it on combines and other Ag equipment but those belts are big, expensive, and dry rotted. Definitely agree with the above, don't use it on anything nice.
The belt is making noises because there is something wrong. Just like stop leak, you don't spray chemicals on parts to fix them. The only one that benefits of snake oil is the business that is making/selling it.

I know that. The belt is new. Hindsight is 20/20, and I fell for "conditioner"

Yeah I'm giving the can to my boss, he's got plenty of those type belts and equipment.
Spray foot powder. For some reason that seems to work and does not cause other issues. Can't remember where I have heard this, but the rare times I can't seem to get a belt to quiet down on a clients car, it seems to work.
I mean, it depends..........on a beater? Yea, I've sprayed everything on the shelf at it until the squeal stops, and then I keep doing what worked when it squeals again. On something I care about? I'm replacing the belt and finding the reason why it squealed in the first place and fixing. Beaters get lucas everything and who knows what else to make problems go away. The question you have to ask; is it a beater? If yes, then throw the shelf of cans at it. If no, then stop doing that lol.
As for removing beater grime that was applied inappropriately on something that's not a beater, start fresh with a new belt.
A belt noise typically means you got problems. Beater or not, nobody want's to be on the side of the road. Well.....I don't.
I am starting to believe my belt/pulleys were really dirty. Considering my coolant hoses kept popping at inopportune times. One of which sprayed it directly. I'll most likely keep a spare in the truck.

Depends. I treat my vehicles that I drive hundreds of miles in one direction very different than I treat my vehicles that go back and forth 20-30 miles.
