Alternator upgrade help

Hello,

I am new to F250s, have always had F150s. I just bought a 2022 F250 diesel. I would like to upgrade the alternator(s). Ive read some come with 2 alternators from the factory. I was looking at my window sticker and I think mine just has 1 240 amp alternator. I would like to run 2 alternators with upgraded wires. Looking for someone that has done this and could guide me with what works best.

Any specific reason for it? I have no problem with a single alternator, and the 6.7 is a lot easier on the batteries than my previous 6.0

I am not sure your pcm will support dual alternators. You might be better to just install a single 600 amp alternator

How does the belt stand up to that? It’s an additional 7bhp on top of the normal load - only when working at the max of course, but a winch would do that.

Sorry no idea, the alternator manufacturer could pro advise on that
on review it appears the largest small frame alternator is 400 amps. To use duals would prob need an external regulator and I am not sure how that would connect and prevent you from a dash warning light if pcm not connected to alternator. More on alternator issues on you tube RV sites

it’s just something to think about, maybe a little more wear. Top fuel motors put over 1000bhp to the supercharger so it’s not a problem making them strong enough…

Not sure if forscan can check the box on the pcm to enable dual alternators. In addition to the belt being different, you would need to replace your primary water pump as well as the single and dual alt trucks have different pumps I believe.

Other option is the mechman route:

https://www.mechman.com/370-amp-elit...d-6-7l-diesel/

I had their 240 amp unit on my old 2002, great unit. I piggy backed 1/0 tinned copper wire from the alternator to the driver's side battery and from the driver's side battery to the passenger side battery. Made a huge difference in performance, especially with my plow. The 220amp stock unit I have on my truck currently seems more than up to the task for me, so I don't have any plans on updating.

My oem duals are not really duals…they are primary and secondary or engaged and latent

the smaller one runs all the time

when the capacity of the smaller one is starting to get exhausted…the second larger one kicks in

in other words…both don’t run all the time
