They used to do core exchanges but I guess they've been getting non matching cores so they only do conversions now.
You should also paint all your needles, makes a big difference.
Rocket Man had the correct orange paint for sale back when I did mine.
He also bought a few extra cores I had, which made for a low cost project.

Be real careful with the little cable that operates the P R N D indicator.

For those needing info on the volt meter install, look here.

Thanks, I just checked. He doesn't sell the paint anymore but he will "freshen" for $10 each if you send 4 or more gauges. I might do that.

I see he will rebuild your tach with brand new internals for $200 but that is a bit steep right now but it might be worth it. What is the issue with the originals? He mentioned the old ones could disable the truck if it fails.

Mine's a manual so the indicator isn't an issue.

There have been threads on here about cleaning the "brown stuff" off the circuit board, and then the tach starts to work again. You should test your tach before installing it.
The older style tach has a cover, the newer style is open and you can see the circuit board.
In theory, grounding the green tach feed wire kills the engine. I haven't heard of this happening.
You can get the needle paint from other sources.
Others suggestion...
I took off the blue covers on the lights, I needed more light.
Lemon Pledge works good for cleaning the plastic lens.
You can change the odometer, if that's important to you.
Good luck, Jim

I also have not heard of the tach shorting out and killing the motor.

Might check Gary's site to see who sells needle paint.
I can tell you DO NOT use Testers orange with green LED bulbs as you cant see the needles in the dark

He tends to suggest that this could happen internally and disable the truck. I'll take my chances for now, LOL. I'll give the cluster a good going over while I'm waiting for the volt meter.

I've seen a couple of write ups on the odo change but I don't think I'll bother. The cluster I'm getting in is less than 10k off the one in it and who knows how accurate that is?
If it were more, maybe I might.
