I wish to install a small tachometer in the dash of my truck and was wondering about wiring, good deals, and any mistakes anyone made so I can make completely original mistakes.
I think most people here will recommend you add a factory tach from a junkyard but this
can easily happen only on trucks with gauges and not idiot lights.
I am intrested in removing the stock gauges and replacing them with AutoMeter's 5" Old Tyme White II series (with blue light covers) I would like to leave room between the two gauges for a GPS unit as well.
What you want to do is make your insturment cluster completley custom. It is going to involve you either splicing into your harness, or running completely new lines for your insturments. There's not much we can tell you except dont plug an ammeter into the wire for an idiot light cause' bad things can happen.
Everything else is going to be up to you, from what you fasion your ic panel out of to what insturments you use... plus you will need an external antenna for your gps if you are going to mount it behind the steering wheel because it won't get a good signal without a clear view of the sky.
I love wiring trucks for some strange reason. and I was auctaly thinking of going with a volt meter instead of an amp meter. And thanks for the advice on the GPS, I grew up out west and these old timey cluster F#?!& they call road systems are a pain for me.
