accel distributor question

i have an accel dual point distributor and it bothers me because it has no advance on it. no vaccuum or mechanical. but i noticed that the points are not open at the same time one right after each other. why does it not have any advance on it.

thanks i found out on that link that the guy has the same distributor as mine and he said it was poorly built. i was thinking i could put that in the tbird to get it going faster and just wire in the duraspark as i go

The petronix ignitor kit would get rid of the points and make that distributor just as good as any other. Or you could sell it and get a duraspark unit very cheap. Who knows? Good luck with your decision

Go to Autozone and get a new distributor. They run $50 with a steel cam drive gear, much cheaper with a cast iron gear. The best part is they have a lifetime guarantee, so nomatter what you do to it, even if you decide to buy an MSD unit one day, you can just take that one back and get a 100% return on your investment. I look at it as a rent-a-distributor. Not that I've ever done that of course......
