Clearance Lights Condensation

How do ya'll keep the moisture out of the clearance lights? I noticed last summer that 2 of the 5 would build up moisture pretty badly. I noticed the little foam gaskets weren't cut great and may be the issue? Either way I tried just sealing them with silicone and that didn't seem to help. My middle bulb has appeared to have burnt out already and I'm wondering if that is from the moisture.

Would a better solution be to drill a weep hole on the side of each lens?

Even though you sealed them where the gasket is, did you seal the screw hole/hdwr hole on top?

Well did you seal the cab hole where the wire comes thru? That would also seal the area between the base and the roof top.

Yessir when I originally installed them sealed base, sealed through cab, sealed again on inside of cab. No issues with moisture coming into the cab. Truck came without headliner so I have been driving around without that for about a year and a half, no water coming in.

I resealed them back towards the beginning of fall and now they hold a small resivoir of water. Gotta be from the rain somehow.

Unless you put a vacuum on them to dry the atmosphere in them ... then after reaching 0% humidity, totally sealing them ... there is going to be moisture in them. If you vent them to allow moving air in them hoping to dry them, then that too has moisture. Moisture in air hitting cooler surfaces like lenses will condense the moisture into water.

Well I just decided to removed the inner foam gasket and go straight sillycone. So far so good after two days no moisture yet.

I wish I could help but I cant.
I bought some clearance lights for my 2011 Chevy 2500HD and my SIL was going to have one of his guys install them for me.
He had a nice stereo shop that did high end stuff.
They never got installed and I thought about installing them on my 1976 but the word "rust" scares the hell out of me so they went in the garbage.

Well lucky for me the previous owner made the decision for me. The truck sat under a pine tree for 20 years with the middle light missing. I removed the old ones, chrome was too far gone to save. I was actually surprised there wasn't any rust to write home about. Even with the light missing in the middle, they also had an 80's styler visor on their at some point cause the button and screws are still there.

All things considered that entire roof should have rotted away but its very clean and straight inside and out.

I would have loved them on my truck. I think they look great.
I am envious.

In the words of Walter Sobchak " If you will it dude, it is no dream."

What probably saved it was the PO owner also had removed the headliner and trim for some reason.

For those that want to, you can get thin foam sheets from Michaels to replace your gaskets.
