I just changed my oil last week, not the filter though, and my truck spat out exactly 6 quarts. I re-filled with 6 quartes even, and the oil read 3/4 up the mark on the dip stick after running the motor for a few minutes. So I figure with an oil filter change, I'd probably need roughly 6 1/2 to 7 quarts.
So, I think it's safe to say we're all on the same page here.
Merry Xmas everyone and happy holidays.

Better not overfill
Not saying you will, but consider one point. FORD may have changed the dip stick meaning on us DIY'rs. Used to be a five quart fill would put it at the top of the cross hatch, that was understood and worked great, (on most old engines).
I carefully read my manual, which applies to 4.2/4.6/5.4 engines, and with six quarts of oil you should expect it to be mid way on the cross hatch, not at the top. The top of the cross hatch is clearly marked MAX. I dont want to put the MAX oil in my engines every fill, just the recommended amount. Anything over MAX is overfill=BAD. So 7 quarts is major overfill, 6.5 is 1/2 quart to much, and 6 is just right.
Happy New Year.
