Towing

I am new to diesels and need help with towing.
i have an SCT tuner. I used tow 50 for my first 300 mile trip pulling a fifth wheel which is heavy!
I towed a while without it and couldn’t really tell much difference in power, etc.
it is a 2006, 6.0 F-350 crew cab.
i had to keep my foot in it most of the time and I know it will be a strain in the mountains.
I’m not sure which tune to try.
any help will be much appreciated…

The problem is, the higher tunes are hard on the transmission while towing. You could try a higher setting, just be mindful of unnecessary pedal. The 6.0, even tuned, still needs to rev to make power so it may seem like it's a turd until you let it downshift.

May be a stupid question, but did you try the tow/haul mode?

The most important question is your truck rid of all the achilles heels?

ARP studs installed
Aftermarket egr cooler (if not deleted)

I suggest you have custom tow tunes written or you will most likely have issues, if you don't already.

The canned tunes (if applicable) are garbage IMO.

Welcome to FTE,

Before you go to far into tuning, I’d suggest sitting down and reading up on the 6.0 and how to monitor it, especially towing heavy in mountains.

I know it will be covered in the links above, but if your absolutely new to this platform you need to check the oil cooler deltas immediately.
