I've started gathering parts so I can rebuild my exhaust, and am looking for some good muffler recommendations.
I'll probably design it as a single 2.5 in system. The precat (only cat I have) will be gone, with a magnaflow replacing that. Probably going with shorty headers as well.
I want one that is a bit on the louder side, but not so loud i sound like a jackass when I drive by. Not looking for raspy, snappy, crunchy, etc. I want it smooth, so I can hear that nice V8 burble.
("on the louder side": I want to be able to listen to the radio/ hold a conversation without yelling, but I want to be able to make some noise, especially when i get on it)
Considering a 1 in 2 out, may stick with a single though.
I have shorty headers and a single 2.5 exhaust. The original muffler the exhaust shop put on was too loud. (Probably a cheapie no-name brand.) I changed to what Flow Master calls their "big block" muffler. Big improvement. Just a bit more sound than I would like at cruising speed, but I do not have overdrive on that truck. If the rpms dropped down to around 2K it would be perfect. (I am usually around 2.5 K at cruise) I doubt if the 2 out is worth the extra trouble.
Hooker Aerochamber are great. The Flow 70 I dig as pretty quiet, it is on my 4.9. I ran Mac Flowpaths before. Magnaflow of various sizes. Corsa on my Vette. Gibson sound mellow. Dynomax Super turbo sound good but flow like crap.
Try to hit a car show and ask around. I am not into obnoxious drone, nor output from tailpipe.
Difficult to say THIS IS IT for anyone as all have a preference like their chocolate starfish.
