i am building a 83 f150 with a cammed 302 with long tubes no cats but i dont know what mufflers to look at im running true dual and i do not have to worry about the harsh bends on the drivers side because i dont have the tank on the left . im looking for a nice deep throaty sounding muffler somthing that lets that little 302 purr
Flowmaster 40 Series, man. I've got one and even with factory manifolds and pea-shooter exhaust before the muffler (2"....muffler is 2.5" single in/out) it sounds pretty serious.
It's really up to personal preference (plus a search would've netted you many recent threads about the same subject) but I prefer the sound of a steel or glass packed muffler like Porters. They have a whole page of video clips to get an idea of the sound.
Glasspacks are ghetto unless you really need them. From how you phrased you question, I'm wagering you're not building a serious engine. Slowmasters are restrictive. If you just want a sound they're fine, but they'll hurt prformance compared to other options. I would recommend Dynomax super turbos. Not restrictive or obnoxious and very well suited to a mild build.
na its just a 302 with a roller cam and edelbrock intake and carb wit a stick behind it and i dont like the idea of glass packes but they sound pretty good

Can't be more restrictive than a factory muffler...
An X-Pipe and some Spintech Pro Street mufflers would sound tough if your cam is lumpier than an RV cam. The Spintechs are raspy and don't have the gurgly drone like Flowmasters. Search some youtube videos, there's tons of Mustangs out there with Spintechs, and a handful of trucks.
My brother and I just put all new exhaust on his 83 Bronco with a 351w. He went with JBA stainless shorty headers with a factory Y-pipe no cats, ran it into 3" single with a Dynomax Ultraflo muffler (straight through) 3" tailpipe and a 4" echo tip. It's throaty but mellow at idle, but it sounds sinister as hell when kick in the 4bbls! Check out the Ultraflow by Dynomax, I think you'll be pleased.

My 40 Series doesn't drone, it has an authoritative overtone.
