We have a 1993 ford explorer 4.0 v6 , pdl, pw, 4wd, 88,000 miles, and NO dtc's. The vehicle was gifted to us, so unfortunately I do not know anything about the past maintenance. A couple months ago it developed a small hiccup when starting cold (first start of the day). The truck would stumble, then immediately rpms pick up and it's good to go, runs/drives/idles great. Problem is, recently in the past week or so, it's gotten worse, and is much more noticeable.
Yesterday I decided to give it a tune up, consisting of - new plugs, wires, FF, AF, pcv valve, cleaned out the IAC with throttle body cleaner, and added a bottle of fuel system cleaner to the tank. We drove it for about 35-40 mins, so far everything seems to be ok.
*I also sprayed all vacuum hoses (in short bursts) to check for leaks and wasn't able to find any.
My question is, if it continues to hiccup on the cold start, is there anything else I should be looking at ? With no codes, I'm left guessing at this point.
thanks in advance for your time and knowledge regarding this matter, much appreciated...👍
