Howdy all!
24 Lariat 7.3, 5,200 miles. Strange issue just started yesterday. Truck knows when I approach, welcome lights come on, but won’t unlock when I touch the handle. Unlocks with fob or keypad. Get in, truck starts with push button, then get chime and message on screen, “no key detected”. Truck drives normal. Get out, can’t lock truck with button on handle, but can with keypad or fob. “Walk away lock” still works, so I know the truck recognizes fob. Anyone wanna guess what’s going on?
TIA
Chukeeee
No clue but with it being a brand new truck I'd let the dealer figure it out. Could be as simple as a software glitch or a loose connection at one of the modules.
Does it do it with both fobs and both doors (assuming it works on both doors).
In simple terms I would guess that the circuit is similar to a touch lamp to detect the touch and unlock the door. As @99powerstrokedF250 said let the dealer take care of it.
Fob battery? All this communication going on between fob and truck consumes an electrical charge.
That was my first thought too, but reading more it seems to work when pressing a button, so that rules the battery out as its transmitting. BUT, Both fobs, or just one? If put in the emergency slot does the truck see it? I'm thinking a damaged FOB, but if both do it, then the RFID module, which I believe is the DDM and PDM may be having issues.
When you touch the door handle it triggers the module to seek out the RFID in the fob, and if it doesn't see it, then it wont unlock or lock.

If it were an older truck I'd agree, but it's a '24 with 5200 miles on it. Unless someone is sitting there pressing buttons on it constantly, I wouldn't think it would be the fob battery. I'd be thinking it's the RFID module, especially if it's both fobs doing it.
Thanks for the responses so far.
No difference with either fob. The truck must be sensing the fob, or the welcome lights wouldn’t come on, or the “walk away lock” wouldn’t be working. Also, I don’t think the truck would start if it didn’t sense the fob, but it starts and then I get the notice.
Yes, I could take it to the dealer, but was hoping someone here might save me a trip.
Mine was just in the shop for NO Keyed Detected, they did a couple of software updates. TBS/SSM 52980 and a TCU software update.
So far so good, bring both keys as they will need to reprogram them.

I see the OP determined the issue is with both fobs. Still, just because a fairly new truck has few miles on it doesn't always mean the batteries are new. I had a similar issue but only when I parked next to one of our office buildings which has a series of communication antennas on the roof (high security area, nuclear facility). The only way I could start my truck was to place the fob in the console slot, and even then the truck would announce it lost communication with the fob until I after I drove a couple blocks away. I have no issue with my fob (yet) anywhere else.
Thanks for all the replies.
Well, the battery is at 12.54v, I can use either fob to remotely lock, unlock, global open and close the windows, and remote start. I can get in the truck and start it with the push to start button if I have either fob in my pocket. The welcome lights come on when I approach the truck, and the walk away lock works when I move away with either fob.

I guess it’s off to the Ford store
Please update this thread after you figure this out. I just purchased a Platinum 24 and while I don't have this problem, I am wanting Walk Away Lock to work. I set it in Forscan, it will work the first time I walk away, then it will not work again. If I try to change the menu that is now in the Setup Locks section, it will give me an error about functioning properly (I don't recall exactly what the error is, but I can click disable and then it gives the error and you can't re-enable it). It will be interesting after they fix yours (module updates etc.) if your walk away lock still works.
