I have the ELM327 and cant get it to communicate with the ecu. Any tips?

not all so called ELM327 modules are the same.
are you trying to use a Windows Laptop?
if so, the USB cable module is highly suggested, as it is stable, and 10 times faster than any Bluetooth version.
ForScan has told us to only use the modules they have listed on their website

Bluetooth adapter is also good
I’m using an android head unit. Joying 10.1” with hopes to have gauges in the screen.

it should have a USB connector on it then,
worst case it will have Bluetooth as all of them do for the last decade or so.
USB is my first choice, it is more stable, and will not interfere with you using the bluetooth with your cellphone.
