Hello,
I have a 76 F250 that has original “Dealership” installed Ford A/C. Not “Factory” installed. (Totally different setup).
I’m looking at replacing the entire heat/AC system with a ClassicAutoAir system.
Any thoughts, recommendations, experience with this system or other aftermarket systems?
Personally, I would take a serious look at VINTAGE AIR.
We just finished a project of 53 Chev. 5 window pichup on a S10 frame. LS engine and all.
We installed ti Vintage air and looked REALLY nice. clean.fit
Fit the curved underdash like a glove. Compressor came with mounting brackets and shims if needed.
Ice cold when finished.
That is pretty much all I can say about this. Not an AC guy but was easy install.

I installed the vintage air on my 78 and have over 17 months and over 5,000 miles so far and have had no issues. I live in Albuquerque and use the air daily; the install was easy and the interface with my American autowire was flawless. The shop that serviced the system for me was very familiar with vintage and serviced everything in under an hour.
I did Vintage Air. It was super easy with well written instructions. Customer support was great when I had questions about pulleys. I had one hose leak and they replaced it for free no questions asked.
Mine came with the dealer air. When I got the truck it did not have a compressor or condenser, and the hoses were all cut. I bought a Vintage Air 04808-VUA compressor (Sanden 508), adapter plate, universal condenser, made new hoses, installed drier, and a low-pressure cutoff. I charged it with R134a. It works great and is super cold. I used it all this past summer here in Texas. I'm just adding this info as your dealer air unit may still work fine if you are trying to save some money. It cost me about $600.
In our '85, we did the Vintage Air setup and it works great. This was using their evap box and a stock condenser and AC compressor from the donor car. Cold as can be and works great. I did a Restomod kit in my '77 and its also a fantastic kit. Both make a kit specific to your truck.
I have Classic Auto Air in my factory ac 77. Clean installation and works fantastic!
I’m interested in hearing more about your installation. I’m looking at their kit for my non ac 77 150. Do you have any pictures of the install or feedback on the kit?
+1 for Vintage Air - but learn from my experience: double and triple check all your fittings to make sure they stay tight after some driving, prior to filling up the system and turning the compressor. We had to tighten 3 different fittings because the refrigerant kept leaking EVEN after it held vacuum for hours. I don't know how to explain why it kept happening but after the latest check, everything has been working well.
I removed the factory air and then took it to my local shop for the actual installation. Attached are the only pictures I have of the installation. Pretty straight forward and simple installation.

After mine is running I will be doing a vintage air setup so the turbo and down pipe will fit. I have an old air products in my crewcab and it has a hard time cooling the cab on hot days.
