I've had mine dumping directly to atmosphere right below the valve cover since I bought the pickup. Never seen a wisp of vapor out of it or a single oil drip.

How's your fuel economy?

I'm surprised you asked that Mark.
Is it kinda known that CCV vented to atmosphere correlates to lower MPG?

No, not that. I think the one thing I have going on is a bit more blow-by that a number of people have, and was wondering if the folks w/ minimal blow-by do much better than I do at fuel economy.

That said, my injectors are old (original), but I have always been a bit below what I thought I should get. Don't get me wrong though - I like my reliability, but just curious.

I'm actually in the same boat then with 220k on the clock and original injectors.
I'm routed along driver side frame and heater hose turns down before in front of fuel tank and no filter on the end. Did this back in 08.

Last couple years I've noticed more vapors sitting at a stop light or when I exit the truck running to do something.

Chalked it up to ring blowby and yes my mpg's have gone done slightly but its an old truck. 2004

Yeah - my question never had anything to do with the ccv mod itself, only about the apparent variability there is (or can be) in engine blow-by.

I get about 13 hand-calculated. This seems to stay pretty consistent even when towing. I have 155k on completely stock motor; original injectors as far as I know. I pretty much have the heaviest F350 Ford produced, with a lift, MT tires, and a big heavy front bumper, so that mileage number seems okay to me. The wife's 07 yukon also only does 13 unloaded, so maybe i'm just used to accepting shi^ty mileage.

I calculate mine with every tank. I average 14 mpg and very often low 15’s. This is with 34.5” diameter tires, ZF6 trans, mostly stock, economy tune with Atlas 40, original injectors and 158k miles.

Thank you too! We are generally in the same ballpark, but your mileage is a bit better than mine (my wheels are 20" with 275/65 mud terrains).

Again, I am not connecting fuel economy w/ the ccv mod - I just had a curious streak hit me regarding blow-by.

I have the same size tires. Cooper Discoverer AT3 XLT 275 65 20. There is very little blow by in this motor. Nothing in the catch can.

Having done the test for crankcase pressure, my blowby is not excessive, but it is certainly more than what some have described in this thread. I definitely accumulate oil in the Racor ccv filter.

I'm basically the same MPG as you, but with 5R110W, 180k, and 34" BFG KO2s. It's been doing the same for almost 20 years now, seems like nothing has made it get better or worse. Don't seem to have much/an blowby, I haven't checked in awhile but never noticed any in the past.

The Ex consistently gets about 1 mpg better, but it has straight highway tires (Nitto Dura Grapplers) that I keep aired all the way up.

Dually has been getting 12-13ish, but it's on KO2s also now.

Chuck,
How is your system working? I have the Racor 4500 and I still have some oil in the CAC tubes, and the elbow at the valve cover keeps coming off. My filter is starting to have some accumulation but still not very much.

They sell these cheap catch cans meant for a BMW on eBay for $25. All it does is catch oil. I see no harm in trying it.

On my Econoline van, the CAC tubes and intercooler all had oil in them. Some of it leaked out and made the engine compartment nasty up by the radiator, I want to avoid that.
