I still have the same whine noise and it seems to be louder, maybe is just me,just got home from home depot and i took the filler plug out which has a magnet on it and i found lots of metal including a couple pieces bigger, about a 1/16 of a inch big, atatched to the magnet, needless to say the fluid looks like gray metalic paint, all this in a 1,200 miles old truck. I'm at the dealer 1st thing in the morning. I`ll post the outcome of such disapointment.thank`s to all ford your support. Mr truck.
Ouch!
Thats not good !
Get it towed there don't drive it!
Call road side assistance if you have to
Make them come and get it
no charge to you, ask for a free rental while they have your truck
Day two at the dealer, the service advisor calls and told me the truck was ready and told me to go for a drive with the tech.sure thing, the noise was there ,and the tech says he replaced one bearing that was coming apart and that the noise was not there when he drove it and now he has to take it appart and find the problem. I got the feeling they flush it and put heavier gear oil in it.who knows what they did,I knew there was something wrong when they told me to go for a drive with the tec.they still have the truck. what should i do guys? should i go and ghet real nasty ? or should just request a new diff. assembly and write a letter to ford?
Tell them you want a new diff !is this an ls unit ?
if so those clutch packs are ruined. with what you described.
Also if one bearing was coming apart it has destroyed the other bearings and races within the differential by the metalic particals floating around.
Don't let them pass it off by trying to repair!
Be calm and talk it over with them.explain why you believe you will never feel comfortable on long trips and towing things !
I had a problem similar to yours with a new Ford truck in 1986. I bought a new F-150 XLT Lariat with a 5.0 L engine. At 129 miles the truck blew the oil filter completely off the engine one morning on start up. I shut the engine off immediatley after hearing the sound of the filter hitting the frame. The dealership replaced the filter and checked everything over, no problems they say. At 349 miles guess what? Yep, your right blew the oil filter off again. Back to the Ford dealership, and guess what ? No problems found again..amazing isn't it. Now your not going to believe this but at 536 miles guess what ? How did you know? Oil filter blows off, but this time the wife is driving. She made it approx. 4 miles before the engine completely seized up. To make a already long post short, my truck sat at the delership 36 days to get repaired. In hind site I made several errors. Everytime they checked the truck and gave it back to me they gave me no paperwork at all. So I had no paper trail (proof) they had worked on the truck. Georgia has a "lemon" law that favors the consumer, but I didn't have the paperwork to back up my claim. Next mistake was not getting someone at Ford in Detroit involved at the second visit. When I finally got the Regional Service rep involved, after my truck had been sitting for 30 days, things started to happen. I wish I would have called him sooner. One of my problems was they were trying to install a reman. short block. I said "NO WAY". I want a brand new engine from the heads down. The only was I got my new engine was yelling and screaming, and having a buddy (attorney) in my shooting club make a phone call for me. My advice is go for a complete assembly. Call the regional service rep. and pitch a fit.

I concur.
Tell them that you don't want them putting new parts in your axle housing that is full of contamination.Be firm in your request without letting it get to you.If they won't go for it or tell you Ford won't go for it,then tell the service manager that you want to talk to the Ford rep.and him at the same time.
I would be inclined to leave the truck sit there until they,(the dealer and or Ford),agree to replace the axle assembly.
Best of luck .
Had the same problem in my 2001 f350 dually! The noise started at about 60,000. I replace the pinion an the carrier bearing at 96,000. I need to replace them again at 190,000. Let us know how it came out an what they said caused it.
