Wiring harness for auxillary lights

I did mine just to the right of the sterring column. I found it to be the easiest place to get a drill.

Wiring harness for auxillary lights

voit1;

Just did mine, many thanks to steve83 for his patience and advice.

I installed HDI blue quartz driving lights on my F350. I don't know if it's quite the same as your F250 tho'.(I checked your profile, nothing is sacred anymore).

I mounted the lights on homemade brackets in the stock location, and wired them to the parking lamps so they're controlled via the light switch. I also installed a small black rectangular rocker switch from Radio Shack into the driver's door sail panel just ahead of the window switches. It allows me to turn the driving lights off and on independent of the main lights and looks a lot better than the standard rocker or toggle switches. If your interested, send me a note and I'll post the part number.

All the wiring was contained in a black plastic harness and looks stock. I found a 3"x4" diamond shaped plastic blank in the firewall under the brake booster. It pops out quite easily. Drilled a 7/16" hole and forced the 1/2" harness through it. I then ran the switch wires through the factory door harness to the switch. I took care of the Daytime Running Lights by simply popping the fuse.

Attached is a thread that will help you with the door panel removal, should you go that way.

Hope this helps

Rick

I found the same diamond shaped knockout. It worked perfect for my plow wire harness that I transferred from my 92' F-250. I popped out the knockout, drilled it out just wide enough to snugly fit the harness through it, and placed it back with ease. Jake.

If you look under the hood, on the driver side and at the steering column, there are 4 wires that come through the dash that are open on each end, in other words, the wires have nothing conected to them on eather end, just 4 wires through the dash.
The MONSTA told me about them when I asked him the same question.
If you want you can email me and I will give you my cell # and you can call me, and I will "Talk" you through it.

Post Wiring harness for auxillary lights

I also want to install aux lights. I noticed that the headlight switch on my '99 S.D. pulls out like the later model switches do for factory fog lights. Does this do anything on my truck or do I have to install another switch to activate fog/driving lights? Is there a wiring harness in the grill area for aux lights?

Thanks,
Doug

Wiring harness for auxillary lights

had the same question in another forum... the wrong forum...

Good day all... quick question... I have a 2001 Power Stroke, 4x4, bla bla bla... it didn't come from the factory with the built in fog lights although the light switch is the standard turn for head lamps and pull for fog lights... my question is this; can I tap in to the harnass and access that fog light circuit utilizing that unused switch and if so can anyone tell me where to start looking???

Thanks much!!

BJ

Anxious to hear if anyone can help on this.... have great one

Im sorry, but you will have to install a new switch. The one that you and I have "pull out" but that part is DEAD "NO WIRES"

Man, that sucks... I figured that the switch and harnass was pretty much universal on these things.... figured for sure I could tap in to that thing.... hermm... I hate drillin' and cuttin' holes in things. -= Not actually true =-
