5.0 issues

Hello. I'm new to the group but have been following some threads for some time looking for some updates on some issues that I am having. I have a 2019 F150 5.0 4x4 purchased new the last day of 2019. It now has 40k. At around 3k the truck was about 2 quarts low and I started the oil consumption test. The dealer followed the TSB, I did routine oil checks with them and after about 3k on the program they said it was good. I did the next couple of oil changes at 5k and didn't need to add oil but it was near the mark. At about 35k I had gone to 6k by accident and the truck was below the add mark. I took it to the dealer and restarted the consumption test. It is just above the add mark after 4800. I need to take it back in and am not sure of the direction to pursue. I have also experienced the following:
1. Pop on deceleration (sounds like near right front tire).-- Intake has been changed twice. Still pops on hills when it upshifts, especially when towing. I can shift to M and duplicate it with on/off throttle. I have seen some posts that describe mine perfectly. I reproduced the noise for the tech and he said he has never heard that noise before.
2. Typical rough shifting on curvy roads, clunking in driveline with on/off throttle. Especially bad going up mountain roads at less than 30mph. -- Reset active learning and it improved some. Also improved with new set of tires. Still having issues, but some better. Generally, does well on HWY.

I talked to service advisor, and she said if it isn't to the add mark and it is due a change it is good. She said she is not aware of Ford replacing engines anymore and that they stopped because it didn't correct the problems. I am concerned about what burning all the oil is doing to the engine. I called Ford and was told the answer would come from the tech regarding the next step.
My questions:
1. Does the reprogramming from the TSB negatively affect performance, particularly transmission?
2. Does anyone know of any other resolution of the popping issue and could that possibly be related to the reprogramming?
3. If there is no further assistance from Ford with the oil consumption, will using the Moly additives some people report success from affect the lifetime powertrain warranty I received when I purchased the truck?
4. Will a transmission service and filter change make any real difference with the clunky transmission?
Thanks for any insight.

Update on 5.0 issues

Hello.
I probably asked too many questions on my first post. A lot of members viewed it but no responses. I happened upon some Youtube videos addressing slip yoke issues. I greased the slip yoke on my F150's driveshaft and it seemed to make a huge difference in the clunkiness of the transmission performance. I am really pleased with the result so far.

The big question remaining: Is anyone aware of any fix for the popping(backfire) type noises that seem to come from the right side of the engine bay near the tire? The noise happens on acceleration with an upshift, especially from 3rd to 4th. There have been several threads mentioning it, but I have not found any that seem to have resolved the issue. I drove the truck with a tech today who I know personally. He said that with all the noises these trucks make, we would be chasing a ghost to try to find it.
Thanks.

The pop might be the flap in the intake slamming shut when the vacuum fluctuates. Part of the reprogramming was to allow the throttle body to operate differently so that there wasn't such a high degree of vacuum in the intake, which was drawing oil vapor at a high rate. The oil was literally being sucked out of the engine, past the piston rings and via crankcase vapors. Have someone in the truck give it throttle to make it happen while you stand outside with the hood open.

Thank you. Yes. At this point, that is the only thing I can imagine. The noise seems to be coming from a lower area toward the right front tire, and I only hear it on a pull/hill. Usually it is an upshift from about 2200 RPM dropping to about 1800. I thought it was a transmission issue, but I can put it into Manual and do the same thing with only throttle. I will try that and see if I can make it happen. I also wondered if it might be a valve in the transmission popping open under a hard pull.

My 18 5L makes no noise like you describe.
The Hi Pressure fuel pump is located on top center of the passenger side Valve cover. II makes a clicking sound at times depending on the fuel pressure.
Remove the rubber cover and check it for mounting looseness or some issue.
It's driven off the Exhaust Cam.
Nothing else there but maybe an exhaust leak popping.
Good luck.
