round or square headlights?

round or square headlights?
I have a 78 f-250 junker plow truck with a 300 that smokes like all heck but never fails me each winter. I am wondering why some 78's, either posted for sale on ebay or what have you, in addition to sales literature, show these trucks with either round or square headlights. So, my question is, do 78's have round or square or was it a choice? Mine has round. Thanks in advance.

I believe that the lower trim levels (Custom, etc.) had the round lights while the higher levels (Ranger, Ranger XLT, Lariat, Lariat XLT) had the square lights. I'm not 100% sure but I think that is how they did it.

AFAIK 1977.5 and earlier had round. Trim level determined which trucks had round in 77.5-78. All 79 had rectangular.
But you may see anything since many of these trucks have had parts swapped around in them.
My 78F250 Ranger Explorer has rectangular headlights.

i had a 78 f-100 that came with round headlites. when it came time to put in a new grill all i could find was square holed ones. so i changed them over. really simple. it's in my gallery. i always heard 78-round 79-square.

need an answer from Ford themselves, i alway's thought that it was early78 got round and the later got the rectangle

My 78 custom cab 4X4 has round headlights.I think it's safe to say that all the 78 custom cabs had round headlights.All the one's I see that have round headlights are custom cabs.And then the Ranger XLT's and all 79's had square.
